When I saw my car’s external thermostat at 108 degrees today, I almost had heat stroke just thinking about it. I’ve been really cautious about watching my family in this heat. In order to beat this hot weather, I’ve come up with a 5 Ways To Beat The South Florida Heat.
Get the Scoop!
1. Keep The Blinds Closed
It’s amazing how much cooler our house is when I keep our Plantation Shutters closed. It does start to feel like I’m in a cave. But when I go to open them, I can feel the heat radiating off the windows. It also keeps the air conditioning from kicking on and off all day.
2.Use a Sun Visor For Your Car
When your car has been sitting in a parking lot or the driveway building heat, it can take just as long to cool the car off as it does getting your family out the door and buckled up. I have a sun visor for the car windshield that helps keep the dashboard of the car protected, so the air doesn’t take so long to get cool. And my kids aren’t whining as long about how hot they are.
3. Turn On The Fan
Ceiling Fans or floor fans are a huge help in the summer. They keep the air circulating through the house. Fans are also a lifesaver at night when my family feels hot. If you keep the circulation going, then you can keep your air conditioner a rest.
4. Keep The Kids Indoors
Sometimes it’s just too hot to go outside, but you don’t want your kids wrecking the entire house. Take your kids to Flippo’s Kids Playground and Cafe in Sunrise, Florida where they can run wild with all the fun attractions. Also, SkyZone Trampoline in Fort Lauderdale, Florida will have them jumping for joy and getting all the sillies out.
5. Stay Hydrated
You don’t realize how easily you can become dehydrated in this South Florida heat. Whether you are working out, swimming in the pool, or just running from the car to the office, that headache comes on quickly when you’ve not had enough liquids.
Sometimes my family and I just can’t stand another boring bottle of water. We have switched to BODYARMOR natural sports drinks. These delicious drinks are not only tasty, but they’re made with potassium packed electrolytes, coconut water (which I love) and vitamins.
They are low in sodium and contain natural flavors, natural sweeteners and no artificial colors which I love for my kids, as well.
BODYARMOR comes in 8-great tasting flavors: fruit punch, orange mango, strawberry banana, tropical punch, lemon lime, mixed berry, grape and blackout berry. My kids can’t get enough and it’s a nice alternative drink after they get done with tennis camp and swimming for hours.
Remember this summer, close the blinds to keep the heat out. Turn your fans on to keep your a/c bill down. Watch the heat index and play inside. And don’t forget to drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
