Sugar Sand Park Community Center’s Annual FREE Event – Back to School Splash
Wednesday, August 7 from 4pm-7pm
The 8th annual Back to School Splash event at Sugar Sand Park celebrates the end of summer vacation with the perfect way to “slide” into the new school year. Families can enjoy water slides, extreme bubbles, giveaways, vendor booths, music, and more at this free outdoor event.
New this year, the Community Center is partnering with Spirit of Giving to collect school supplies. If attendees bring school supplies to donate at the event, they can enter to win prizes.
Attendees can enjoy the following Unlimited access to SIX big water slides, a water spraying inflatable elephant, Vendors tables and sneak peek at fall programs. Concessions will be available for purchase from Circus Treats, Mr. Ice Guy Italian Ices, Tomasso’s Pizza
Back to School Splash is geared toward kids ages 5 – 12, and is weather permitting. Guests should remember sunscreen, bug spray, bottled water, towels, hats, and a change of dry clothes if planning to visit the indoor Children’s Science Explorium or spend time inside the Community Center.

STEAM THROUGH SEPTEMBER WITH THE CITY OF BOCA RATON’S EDUCATIONAL SCAVENGER HUNT GEARED TOWARD STUDENTS FROM AGES FIVE TO 12

The City of Boca Raton has announced plans for a city-wide scavenger hunt geared toward students from the ages of 5 – 12.
“STEAM Through September” is kicking off on Friday, August 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a FREE event at Sugar Sand Park, 300 S. Military Trail.
STEAM Through September will challenge students in the areas of (S)cience, (T)echnology, (E)ngineering, (A)rts and (M)ath, while exploring some of the City of Boca Raton’s amazing exhibits, programs and places.
Children will be encouraged to pick up a passport at the kick-off party, or at any of the participating locations starting August 30. They will then be challenged to complete one activity in each of the five categories of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math, whereby they will receive one stamp for each.
Once all stamps are collected, explorers can bring their passport to any participating location by the end of the day on Friday, October 11, to claim a prize and enter to win a grand prize in a drawing.
While there are fees and registrations required for some programs, there is no cost required to participate or qualify to enter the grand prize drawing.
This year, the City of Boca Raton has partnered with local businesses representing each element of STEAM, with Boca Pediatric Group as the science partner, iPic Theaters for technology, Grieco Mazda of Delray Beach for engineering, Boca Museum of Art for arts, and Team Terry Story at Keller Williams for mathematics.
Participating locations include the Children’s Science Explorium, 300 S. Military Trail; Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, 1801 N. Ocean Blvd.; the Downtown Library, 400 N.W. 2nd Avenue; and Spanish River Library, 1501 N.W. Spanish River Blvd.
The program kicks-off on Friday, August 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sugar Sand Park, 300 S. Military Trail, with a FREE party featuring food trucks, giveaways, games, music and the official opening of the Children’s Science Explorium’s newest exhibit, Animationland.
From electronic interfaces through a full-body opportunity to plan and star in a stop-motion production, Animationland includes a wide range of interactive experiences. Environmental elements provide an immersive setting to inspire all visitors to learn the art and science of animation.

As part of its ongoing support of the community, Hoffman’s Chocolates is pleased to announce that it is celebrating the start of the 2019/2020 school year by holding a Backpack Drive, on July 29 through August 11 at all of its retail stores in Broward and Palm Beach counties, to benefit ChildNet. ChildNet is a Community-Based Care (CBC) lead agency in both Broward and Palm Beach counties that works to protect abused, abandoned and neglected children.
Anyone who donates a NEW school backpack at a participating Hoffman’s Chocolates retail location on July 29 through Friday, August 11, will receive a Free Ice Cream Sundae. The offer is limited to one Hoffman’s Chocolates Ice Cream Sundae per donated school backpack (no drawstring bags, messenger bags or fanny packs). All backpacks should be brought to the store registers for redemption.
