The City of Boca Raton has announced plans to commemorate and honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with four free community celebrations.
On Monday, January 21, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the day-long celebration will include:
7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Free Community Breakfast, courtesy of Developing Interracial Social Change (DISC)
Ebenezer Baptist Church, 200 Ruby Street
9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Take part in a ceremony honoring the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., featuring City officials, inspirational speeches and musical performances.
MLK Jr. Memorial Monument, 200 Ruby Street
March from the MLK Jr. Memorial to Sanborn Square, featuring the Boca Raton High School Band and other local groups.
Southbound, Along Federal Highway
11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Celebrate a day honoring social change and love in action in the Boca Raton community with FREE carnival rides, music, family activities, face painting, and vendors! Free with the exclusion of food and beverages.
Sanborn Square, 72 North Federal Highway
New this year, a Call to Artists! Artists of all ages are invited to submit a piece of original artwork in any medium that embodies one of the philosophies taught by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., which can be found at www.TheKingCenter.org/king-philosophy.
Finalists will be put on display at the Carnival at Sanborn Square on January 21, and the winner will be selected at the event to be featured on the City’s Special Events Facebook page & website. Submit a photo of your entry by January 17 to email@example.com to be considered.
All events are free and open to the public.
Manatee Lagoon kicks off second annual ManateeFest 2019 celebration
Manatee Lagoon – An FPL Eco-Discovery Center® is celebrating its third anniversary with ManateeFest 2019.
This free, family-friendly event jump starts with a Moonlight Movies at Manatee Lagoon viewing of “Finding Nemo” on Friday, Feb. 1.
Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs, and food and beverage vendors will be on site. The large screen event is staged on the grassy lawn under the environmental education center’s iconic front lawn Banyan Tree.
The festivities will continue on Saturday, Feb. 2 with an action-packed day of hands-on educational and engaging activities.
Saturday’s event will include photo opportunities with Mia the Manatee, an interactive selfie station, marine life face painting, art stations, local and state environmental exhibitors and much more. There will also be a passport activity, where guests are eligible to win a prize for visiting designated stations and completing the fill-in-the-blank statements in the passport.
With a variety of food trucks, arts and crafts vendors, environmental booths and live music, ManateeFest 2019 is sure to be a weekend the whole family will enjoy.
This event features free admission and parking. Food and beverages are available for purchase.
