I find it so hard to shop for Father’s Day. I think it gets tougher and tougher each year because my dad has everything he needs and my husband wants big toys that I would never buy without him. Dreading what I might do, I started brainstorming and I came up with a few different Father’s Day ideas that I think you and dads might like.
If your husband is a fisherman, then I recommend visiting Darren at the Ole Florida Fly Shop in Boca Raton. He has saved me many times with gift ideas for Father’s Day, birthdays and Christmas. He has everything from fly rods to cool logo fishing t-shirts. You can even coordinate a fishing guide trip. He has a guide referral on his website. If you and your husband communicate and you know his schedule, it would be a great surprise. I tried coordinating a trip once, it was very difficult with my husband’s work schedule. So I bought a gift certificate instead. They are open Monday -Saturday 12:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. and Sunday 12:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.
Deck 84 is located on Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach on the Intracoastal Waterway. It’s a great place to take dad for a yummy brunch on Father’s day. On Sundays, they have an amazing Build-Your-Own Bloody Mary Bar which is available from 12:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. You can choose from 20 items to personalize your cocktail. My favorite are the blue cheese stuffed olives! Yum, Yum!
One of my favorite brunch items on the menu is the “24 hour” french toast made on Brioche bread and the Breakfast Burrito made with organic eggs, roasted poblano peppers, cheddar-jack cheese, enchilada sauce, pico di gallo, and guacamole. Ole!
Around 2:00 p.m., Deck 84 transforms into a Key West style restaurant with Live entertainment. It’s a great atmosphere and you can make dad feel like he is on a staycation!
P.S. They don’t take any reservation before 5:00 p.m., so get there early.
Cars are not a big interest of mine, but my dad really digs classic and antique cars. From 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Father’s Day, Mizner Park will be hosting antique and classic cars from the 1920’s to present and post-European exotic cars. After the show, go to the FAU Concert In The Park.
You may not be able to send him to the U.S. Open golf tournament, but you can let him watch it. I plan on making a big breakfast with eggs, bacon and corn beef hash and lay around in our pajamas. I may even take the kids to the park starts around 12:00 p.m. eastern standard on CBS, if you need to DVR.
