Fun Things To Do With Your Kids This Spring In South Florida

The South Florida Weather is amazing right now. It’s time to get outside and enjoy some social distancing events with your family.

I’ve got the scoop on local events and having fun with your kids this spring.

LEGACY PLACE SALUTES FIRST RESPONDERS WITH A FREE DRIVE-IN MOVIE FOR FIRE, POLICE AND HEALTHCARE WORKERS

WHEN: Saturday, February 20.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and cars must be in place by 6:15 p.m.  Movie to start promptly at 6:30 p.m.

WHAT: in partnership with the City of Palm Beach Gardens, will salute local fire, police and healthcare workers with a FREE drive-in movie host a drive-in movie on the top level of the garage at dusk on

This PG film stars John Cena and is about a crew of rugged firefighters who meet their match while attempting to rescue three rambunctious kids.

Advance registration is required at https://legacyplaceplayingwithfire.eventbrite.com.  Upon arrival, attendees (one per vehicle) will receive a $10 gift card, courtesy of Legacy Place, and redeemable at a Legacy Place restaurant.  No-shows will not receive a gift card.  Capacity is limited and per-car reservations are necessary. 

Attendees are invited to dine in at Legacy Place restaurants prior to the movie, pick-up or order food to be delivered at their cars.  COVID-19 guidelines must be followed.  Masks are necessary when out of your vehicle, social distancing must be observed and no sitting on top of cars. 

Participating restaurants include Five Guys, The Great Greek, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Sal’s Italian Ristorante, Chili’s Bar and Grill, Cool’a Fish Bar.

BOCA RATON PUBLIC LIBRARY UNVEILS NEW STORYWALK® AT SERENOA GLADE PRESERVE IN BOCA RATON

WHAT: The Boca Raton Public Library is pleased to announce the addition of a StoryWalk to the Serenoa Glade Preserve at George Snow Park in Boca Raton. StoryWalk is a fun, educational activity that places a children’s storybook along a popular walking route in the community.

The Serenoa StoryWalk will highlight books at easily viewable heights for young children up to 5 years old. This is the second StoryWalk in the City of Boca Raton. The first StoryWalk opened in July 2020 at the Pondhawk Natural Area adjacent to the Spanish River Library. A different book will be displayed at each StoryWalk every two months to keep both StoryWalk learning experiences fresh and exciting.

WHERE: StoryWalk is the perfect place for the whole family to explore a local landmark and enjoy outdoor activities. The StoryWalk at Serenoa Glade Preserve is easily accessible for people of all ages from the George Snow Park parking lot at 1101 NW 15th Street, Boca Raton.

Virtual Family Fun: Honmei Choco at Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens

WHAT: Make your own box of clay chocolate, or honmei choco (“true feeling chocolate” in Japanese), and learn about the Japanese tradition and customs for giving chocolate on holidays—Valentine’s Day and White Day. Instructions will be shared on Morikami’s Facebook page.

KIDS CRAWL

  • WHAT: Come join the fun with Downtown Palm Beach Gardens and one of their partner organizations on the last Wednesday of every month for the FREE event. Moms and kids are invited to take part in special activities from one of Downtown’s local community partners.

STROLLER DAZE

WHEN: February 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHAT: Age-appropriate science crafts, planetarium shows, Discovery Center and playground exploration, giveaways and more are all on the schedule with 50% off general admission for adults and free for members and children under five. Other activities include a free planetarium show and live science demonstrations.

HOW MUCH: 50% off general admission for adults, free for members and children under five

LASER LIGHTS & BITES

WHEN: Second Friday of each month – next event is February 12 from 6-9 p.m. and features music from The Beatles.

WHAT: Sing and dance along to favorite songs with plenty of room to socially distance during the outdoor Laser Concert Spectacular. Guests are encouraged to bring picnic blankets to set up on the Cox Amphitheater lawn and can purchase food from the food truck scheduled to be on-site.

HOW MUCH: Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for children, $10 for adult members, $8 for children members and free for children under 3.

REAL BODIES: THE EXHIBITION

WHEN: On display until April 11, 2021

WHAT: This exhibit showcases 20 real, preserved human bodies, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Presented by the Stiles-Nicholson Foundation, the exhibit is appropriate for all ages and goes beyond skin deep to reveal the mysteries of human anatomy and explores the body through physiology, culture and emotion.
