Manatee Season kicks off on November 15.
I have been compensated to share the local scoop about Manatee Lagoon on Lake Worth Lagoon.
When I told my kids we’d been invited to visit Manatee Lagoon – An FPL Eco-Discovery Center® , all they could think of was those adorable creatures they’ve seen on the West Coast of Florida on Captiva Island during our summer vacation.
My kids and I didn’t know much about manatees except they seem like friendly animals who enjoy warmer water.
Our trip to Manatee Lagoon in Riviera Beach was filled with an educational experience my daughters truly enjoyed. I discovered the facility and all it has to offer the South Florida community.
Manatee season begins on November 15 and runs through March 31. This time of year, the water temperatures up north drop (because of the weather) and the manatees are drawn to locations where the waters are warmer down south.
Manatees have been drawn to Manatee Lagoon because of the warm-water outflows from Florida Power & Light Company’s adjacent to Riviera Beach Next Generation Clean Energy Center.
If the water temperatures drop (especially when we’ve had several days of cold weather) these “gentle giants” will frequent the waters surrounding Manatee Lagoon. When planning your visit, consider looking at Manatee Lagoon’s online Manatee Cam where you can actually see them interact in their watery habitat from the observation deck.
