Wouldn’t you like to meet the Senior Editor of Harpers Bazaar.com?
Local Mom Scoop had the pleasure of interviewing Jenna Rosenstein, the Senior Editor of Harpers Bazaar.com. I picked her brain on the latest beauty trends for 2017 and tips for the South Florida Mom Lifestyle. She shared her beauty scoop on products for a quick morning routine, traveling with kids, handbag must-haves, applying the cat-eye, botox alternative, toes exposed and getting rid of those dark circles.

Local Mom Scoop: Mornings can be hectic for most moms. What are some easy beauty tips for a quick morning routine that will have us looking fab as we walk out the door?
Jenna: If you can find 45-seconds to three minutes of alone time, you can apply an entire face of makeup.
It all starts with good skincare, so use your favorite daytime serum (anything with vitamin C is a great choice) plus a priming moisturizer, which hydrates and prepares skin for a smooth makeup application.
Then layer on a medium-coverage BB cream with SPF—this will even out your skin tone just like a foundation plus give you the anti-aging benefits of sunscreen.I like 3Lab Perfect BB Cream, which is pricey but incredible, or the reasonably-priced It Cosmetics CC+ SPF 50.
You won’t have time for makeup brushes and powders, so use creamy sticks and crayons for everything else.
Swipe on some blush (Clinique makes amazing blush sticks), smear on a sparkly eyeshadow crayon (I like Maybelline’s shadow crayons), and then trace your lips with a pink chubby balm (Sisley’s lip crayons are super cute and hydrating). Use your fingers to blend everything together, and then get out the door.
TRAVELING WITH KIDS
Local Mom Scoop: Traveling with kids on a plane can be a bit stressful and dehydrating. Any products we should have in our carry-on to look like it was a joyous trip as we leave the plane?
Jenna: I am the biggest proponent of bringing sheet masks on airplanes—although your child might find the sight of you wearing one absolutely terrifying. The best advice I can give is to clean your face with a wipe as soon as you sit down on the plane, then apply an eye mask and a thick layer of lip balm for the duration of the flight. I always have wipes and sheet masks of all varieties in my carry-on bag. If I’m feeling self-conscious, I’ll often share a mask with my seat mate (people really love this).

Local Mom Scoop: What’s in your handbag right now that you can’t live without?
Jenna: Like every other woman, I have 400 million things rolling around in the bottom of my handbag at all times. But the one thing I am shamefully obsessed with is my La Prairie Anti-aging Eye & Lip Perfector. It’s a whopping $170 for a compact of lip balm and eye cream, but oh god, it’s worth every penny. The lip balm is unlike anything you’ve used before. It’s so rich and decadent and your lips will feel softer after just looking at it.
The eye cream is also more of a balm than a cream. My under-eye concealer always creases no matter what I do (trust me, I’ve tried everything) and this eye balm is perfect for tapping over my makeup throughout the day. It gets my concealer back where it belongs, plumps my fine lines, and just makes me look as fresh as I did when I left the house. I actually fought with an airport security agent over this product at the Grand Cayman airport a few weeks ago. They tried to throw it away—and I about lost my damn mind.
APPLYING THE CAT-EYE
Local Mom Scoop: Since the Black Liner Redux is one of your make-up trends, what’s the best way to line an eye? A good eyeliner recommendation?
Jenna: I wear a black cat-eye almost every single day, and it’s taken me years to perfect the technique. I still wouldn’t say I’m the best at it, but the one trick that has changed my life is starting with the flick or wing first. Trace a small line where you want the wing to be, make sure both sides are even, and then connect it with your lashline by drawing a triangle shape. Only then should you trace your actual lashline. I prefer to use a felt tip marker because they do not budge and they’re the easiest to draw with.
Local Mom Scoop: Since we are all about cosmetic surgery and staying young in South Florida, not everyone is quite ready for Botox. Do you have any quick fixes to hide those fine lines while at the playdate?
Jenna: Most fine lines can be minimized with proper hydration and a primer containing blurring silicones. Absolutely everyone should be using moisturizer each morning and night—no matter your skin type.
There are also a few serums, like Erasa XEP 30, which can mimic the line-softening effects of Botox if used consistently. But above all, if you want to prevent new wrinkles from forming, you need to be wearing an SPF 30 or 50 everyday.
Smear it on your face, neck, and chest—no excuses.
LOCAL MOM SCOOP: Our toes are exposed all year around. Any fun colors or trends that we should know about?
JENNA: I don’t really believe in color trends when it comes to nails. It all seems so silly after a while. You do you; pick whatever inspires your heart that day. I can go from wearing black nails one week, to purple the next, to sparky emerald the next. My only piece of advice is to make the color on your toes slightly darker than whatever you choose for your nails—it just looks a little more sophisticated that way.
LOCAL MOM SCOOP: Since the relaxed red lip is in for 2017, what’s your favorite red lipstick that will stay on while enjoying a glass of Rose’ with girlfriends?
JENNA: Definitely the Armani Lip Magnet Liquid Lipstick in 400—it feels as weightless as water on your lips but leaves behind a stain that is almost annoyingly impossible to remove (you’re going to need an oil-based cleanser).
HIDING DARK CIRCLES
LOCAL MOM SCOOP: Moms have a lot of sleeplessness nights. Any tips on hiding those dark circles so you look alive at the mommy and me class?
JENNA: I get asked about dark circles all the time, and while they can definitely be exacerbated by sleepless nights and coffee guzzling, they’re more often a hereditary issue. Which means there’s only so much you can do. An eye cream with vitamin K and caffeine can help brighten the area; look for one with a hint or iridescence for daytime.
Then apply a creamy eye concealer with a peachy tint only where you need it. Tap it along your darkest spots and up toward the tear duct and nose. Then dab a little highlighter in your inner corners and along your brown bone—you’ll be surprised at what a difference that makes.
