I’ll be honest. I don’t take care of myself like I should. I have a tendency to worry about everyone else in my family first and then myself.
But with the New Year around the corner and my birthday right behind, I thought it was time to get my BEHIND in a workout routine. I decided to get a Personal Trainer.
The timing was perfect because my Local Mom Scoop friend, Anita Miller referred me to her trainer at IHP Fitness in Boca Raton. I was super excited and scared at the same time.
But I knew I needed someone to stay on top of me because it’s so easy to use excuses like being up all night with kids or putting errands, work and kids first.
MY FIRST SESSION
When I met Georgia Walker, I was waiting for this drill instructor to start yelling at me to do burpees, but that was not the case at all.
She started off with a physical assessment to see what my strengths and weaknesses were. I did squats, lunges and arm bands. Wow! My left side was so much weaker than my right which is from holding babies on my right arm and right hip I suppose. Georgia made a few notes which was great because her job was to customize a workout that I could handle.
After the physical assessment, we measured my body fat (Yikes!). But I needed to see that muffin top squeezed and my “under the bra fat” measured. It’s a wake up call for sure.
We did a one-on-one work out together and I have to say it was really fun. Working out cannot be a chore for me and Georgia is super motivating. It’s like working out with a friend who will push you right when you want to give up on those last 2 lunges.
I’ve never had a personal trainer before, but I need someone to guide me and pump me up to get rid of this baby weight that has been hanging on for too long.
Here is a text I received from Georgia when I had to go out of town for a weekend in December.
I’d just started getting in a routine. How cool is this!!!
IHP Fitness also hosts classes like the HIIT class. I do this class on alternative days when I’m not doing one-on-one’s with Georgia. She also teaches this class.
The class is based off of the HIIT concept, which stands for High Intensity Interval Training. This form of exercise allows for maximum fat burn in a minimum amount of time.
Georgia designs each workout around a circuit, typically bodyweight movements, that are done in a circuit or interval fashion. The workouts can be modified to work with all fitness levels.
My first HIIT class had 4 girls of all different ages which was actually motivating. A 60 year old woman in the class was literally kicking my ass. She was truly motivating me during the last interval. I was planking, burning and motivated.
