When I first moved to Boca Raton, my MIL told me I should join the Junior League of Boca Raton.
It was one of the smartest decisions I’ve made in my life. I was able to give back, meet some of my greatest friends and learn to be a leader and a volunteer.
One of my favorite events the Junior League hosts is the Annual Woman Volunteer of the Year (WVOY) luncheon. I was on this committee during my actve years in the League. It’s such an amazing event to be able to honor so many wonderful volunteers in the community who give back their time and make such an impact.
This year the event was held on Friday, November 6that the Boca Raton Resort and Club.
The Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation was the Awards Sponsor while Saks Fifth Avenue Boca Raton served as the exclusive Fashion Sponsor, with designer Rebecca Taylor presenting her Resort and Spring 2016 Collection. I had the opportunity to meet Rebecca Taylor and chat with her about motherhood and her latest 2016 Spring Collection. See more fashions below.
This is the Junior League of Boca Raton’s largest annual fundraiser and hosted close to 900 guests to celebrate local women in the community and their pledge to outstanding voluntarism. The event netted more than $180,000.
Linda Coffin, nominated by Children’s Home Society of Florida, was named the 2015 Woman Volunteer of the Year and Pat Reed, who has been a driving force behind the Soroptimist International of Boca Raton/Deerfield Beach, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The event was co-chaired by Elizabeth Kelley Grace and Debbie Abrams with Deb Tarrant serving as Honorary Chair. The event’s masters of ceremony were the Honorable Susan S. Whelchel, former Mayor of Boca Raton, and the Honorable Steven L. Abrams, Palm Beach County Commissioner.
The event recognized 35 nominees from non-profit organizations throughout Palm Beach County for their dedication and expertise as volunteers. This year’s nominees were: Tami Babij (AVDA: Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse), Pamela Higer-Polani, Esq. (Alzheimer’s Association), Lisa Wheeler (Best Foot Forward), Carrie Gibbons (Boca Ballet Theatre), Yasmine Zyne (Boca Helping Hands), Barbara Cambia (Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce), Amy Kazma (Boca Raton Historical Society & Museum), Dr. Nicole Edeiken (The Boca Raton Museum of Art), Tamara “Tami” Hewell (Boca Raton Police Services Department), Betsey Chesler (Cameras for Kids Foundation), Dr. Violeta Chiong (Caridad Center), Terry Fedele (Caring Hearts Auxiliary, Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center), Linda Coffin (Children’s Home Society of Florida), Carmen “Toni” Fiore (Christians Reaching Out To Society, Inc. “C.R.O.S), Suzy Lanigan (Community Foundation for the Palm Beach and Martin Counties and Impact 100 Palm Beach County, Inc), Mary Enck (Debbie Rand Memorial Service League), Madonna Turner (Family Promise of South Palm Beach County, Inc.), Peggy Henry (Florence Fuller Child Development Centers, Inc.), Donna Parlapiano (George Snow Scholarship Fund), Linda Gunn Paton (Junior League of Boca Raton), Shelly Albright (Junior League of the Palm Beaches), Dr. Heidi Schaeffer (Kidsafe Foundation), Kerri Wheeler Gordon (Kiwanis Club of Deerfield Beach), Denise McDonald (National Society of Arts and Letters), Bonnie Boroian (Place of Hope at the Leighan and David Rinker Campus), Pia Giannone Scheer (Rotary Club of Boca Raton), Kari Oeljen (Rotary Club of Downtown Boca Raton), Dr. Jodi Schoenhaus Gold (SHUZZ Foundation), Pat Reed (Soroptomist International of Boca Raton/Deerfield Beach), Carol Cedar (Spirit of Giving), Sharon DiPietro (Tri County Animal Rescue and Human Society), Angela Fisher (Unicorn Children’s Foundation), Candace Rojas (Wheels From the Heart), Victoria Karasin (Women’s Executive Club of South Palm Beach County), Melissa Whelchel (YMCA of South Palm Beach County, Inc.).
