When I received the invitation to meet fashion designer Trina Turk and watch a Q & A with one of my favorite bloggers, Alyson Seligman from The Modern Savvy, I could barely contain myself. The presentation hosted at Bloomingdale’s at the Palm Beach Gardens Mall was full of fun facts and, of course, gorgeous Summer Fashions (see below) that were the epitome of the South Florida Lifestyle. Color, color and more color is what Trina Turk is all about. I was so happy to see so much color. This summer collection did not disappoint. My only problem was making up my mind because I wanted it all.
You see! I’ve been wearing Trina Turk since she first started the brand almost 20 years ago. I had this really cool pair of palatzo pants. Gorgeous and flowy, these pants made my toosh look so good. (Sorry to brag, but I have J. Lo’s booty and it can be unforgiving.) But now Trina tells me, it’s all about the easy dressing. They’re selling way more dresses than ever which I love. If you didn’t know, I’m a throw on and go girl.
The reason I know this….well, I was invited to have a private interview with Trina before the presentation. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought this opportunity would come my way. (Again, I love what I do.)
Of course, I had to share the fashion scoop with all of you.
Get the local mom scoop on my private interview with Trina Turk at Bloomingdale’s at the Palm Beach Gardens Mall. We talk summer must-haves, what’s in your handbag and tips for starting a biz.
Heather: What are some tips you have learned along the way in your journey as an entrepreneur?
Trina: You do have to have some drive to see it through. As much as you want everyone to be supportive or excited for you, they may or may not be. When I first started I worked for a few other designers, I thought I knew everything. When in fact, I didn’t. But I did build a network of people that I could go to, who knew about things I didn’t. Make sure you have that.
You also have to be fairly determined and on a mission. You don’t get anywhere without hard work. Especially in fashion, you have to have focus. Having a brand identity is the most important thing. Trina Turk is print, color, and optimism.
Heather: What’s a must-have piece in your summer collection for moms?
Trina: The Theodora Caftan is one of our best selling styles. We’ve changed the print this season. You can wear it with heels as a dress or as a beach cover-up with a cute pair of sandals. It’s such a versatile style. You can roll it up and put in your suitcase. It packs so easily.
Another item is the printed peasant tops. These are an easy throw on piece that you can wear with white jeans or a pair of shorts.
We also have off the shoulder swimsuit with a flounce around the top. Customers are wearing it as a body suit as well as a swimsuit. Who knew!
Heather: What’s in your handbag you can’t live without?
Trina: I can’t live without Rosebud Salve. If you are traveling and your lips are dry, it moisturizes and also gives you a tiny bit of color.
